Midò è innanzitutto una lampada. La mia sperimentazione nasce dalla volontà di esprimere concetti come realtà mutevole, ambiguità e disorientamento. In fase progettuale il disorientamento è passato dall’essere espresso dal fascio di luce, alla effettiva struttura della lampada. Essa infatti è costituita da un cubo, di dimensioni 20x20, forato da sei fenditure. A ciascuna fenditura corrisponde una tessera 11x11. Le sei tessere dunque potranno essere inserite o rimosse a piacimento, con l’intenzione di modulare l’intensità e la direzione del fascio luminoso. Inoltre, tornando alle motivazioni originarie della lampada; tali tessere, che sporgono di qualche centimetro dalla superficie del cubo, produrrano l’effetto di dilatazione spaziale delle superfici, mettendo in dubbio la fissità del riferimento spaziale, per creare dunque una sensazione di equivocità: forme non concluse che potenzialmente potrebbero propagarsi all’infinito.
Nel disegno della lampada è stata posta particolare attenzione alla elementarità delle forme, così come alla semplicità degli assemblaggi, ma soprattutto alla funzionalità degli elementi, in modo tale che ogni parte della lampada avesse costantemente un utilizzo. Perciò in linea con questo pensiero, le tessere estratte per modulare il fascio luminoso non vengono accantonate occupando inutilmente spazio, ma assumono stavolta la funzione di piedistallo. Ciascuna tessera infatti è stata progettata in maniera tale da potersi combinare stabilmente, formando una piedistallo delle dimensioni direttamente proporzionali al numero di tessere estratte. E così la necessità di avere più luce, dovuta all’estrazione delle tessere, sarà avvantaggiata anche dall’innalzamento della lampada nello spazio tramite un piedistallo.
Midò is first and foremost a lamp. My experimentation arises from the desire to express concepts such as changing reality, ambiguity and disorientation. In the design phase, the disorientation went from being expressed by the light beam to the actual structure of the lamp. In fact, it is made up of a cube, measuring 20x20, pierced by six slits. Each slot corresponds to an 11x11 tile. The six tiles can therefore be inserted or removed as desired, with the intention of modulating the intensity and direction of the light beam. Furthermore, returning to the original motivations of the lamp; these tiles, which protrude a few centimeters from the surface of the cube, will produce the effect of spatial dilation of the surfaces, casting doubt on the fixity of the spatial reference, to therefore create a sensation of equivocality: unfinished shapes that could potentially propagate ad infinitum.

Therefore, in line with this thought, the tiles extracted to modulate the light beam are not set aside, occupying space unnecessarily, but this time take on the function of a pedestal. In fact, each tile has been designed in such a way that it can be combined stably, forming a pedestal with dimensions directly proportional to the number of tiles extracted. And so the need for more light, due to the extraction of the tiles, will also be advantaged by raising the lamp in the space via a pedestal.
